PriMed Physicians Selects Business Data Solutions, Inc. for Document Conversion

Both local businesses benefit by keeping the work in the Dayton Area

Sept. 30, 2009 - (Dayton, Ohio) - In preparation for PriMed Physicians’ transition to an electronic health record system, PriMed has contracted with Business Data Solutions, Inc. (BDS) to convert patients’ medical charts from paper to a digital format.

The Springboro-based BDS will be responsible for document scanning the medical charts of PriMed Physicians’ 183,000 patients. That translates into digitizing 10 million images and - for the physician practice – a million-dollar investment. Changing over to electronic health records for PriMed’s 22 offices gets underway later this year and continues throughout 2010.

"We are very excited to be working with PriMed Physicians to assist in the conversion of their patients’ medical records," said BDS Vice President of Sales Steve Rottert. "Over the past ten years, our company has established itself as a leader in converting paper medical records to electronic files." Clients of BDS include Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center and Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus.

Experience was only one factor for PriMed’s selection of BDS. According to Dr. Mark Couch, President of PriMed Physicians, the guarantee of secure and timely conversion, along with a well-designed tracking system is what pushed BDS over its competition.

"As we convert our patients’ medical charts into the EHR, it’s essential the offices have reliable access to the information," said Couch. "We’re looking forward to replacing the filing system that’s become the accepted norm in medical practices. Rows and rows of overcrowded shelves, full of overstuffed manila files is not an acceptable method for storing vital records."

Working with PriMed Physicians has a personal connection for Business Data Solution’s Rottert. "My family and I have been patients of PriMed since 1999. It’s a pleasure to have a role in their advancement to electronic records," said Rottert.

Round-the-Clock Access to Health Records

The conversion to electronic files will enable PriMed physicians access to patient records anytime. Currently, with paper charts, patient records can only be reviewed when the doctor is in the office. But once the records have been put into an electronic format, the doctors with PriMed will use secure, online access to patient’s health information.

PriMed Physicians is an independent physician group with more than 60 doctors who specialize in family medicine, pediatrics, internal medicine, cardiology, endocrinology, neurology, podiatry and physical therapy. PriMed has offices in 22 locations throughout Greater Dayton and is on the web at www.primedphysicians.com.
